Expectations for IMF NeuroRehab

If you have experienced a functionally complete paralysis, this usually means that your muscles and body cells were disconnected from the brain. Reconnecting these cells is a complex process, and we aim to support you in various ways to guide you as effectively as possible on this journey.

Core Principle: From the Inside Out

IMF NeuroRehab works from the inside out. This means that the first step is the gradual return of deep sensory perception – such as the sensation of pressure on specific areas of the body. This process can be described as a kind of reacquisition of body awareness.

As muscles and tendons are progressively reactivated, stability – especially core stability – gradually develops. This involves the muscle groups that lie directly against the bones and are responsible for stabilizing posture and ensuring proper joint alignment. The most important of these include:

  • Pelvic floor muscles
  • Deep hip muscles
  • Multifidus muscles (these small muscles position the individual vertebrae of the spine correctly and help prevent back pain when activated)
  • C-arches in the feet

Only at a later stage can the reactivation of the superficial muscles, responsible for initiating movement, be expected.

Ideally, your physiotherapist should accompany you on this journey so that you can consciously perceive the improvements achieved through IMF NeuroRehab and gradually integrate them into your daily life.

The fight is over.
